Busselton Family

From free library sessions for little ones to swimming lessons, teen activities and whole-family learning, Busselton families have practical ways to play, learn and connect. When extra help is needed, local and regional services also support child development, youth wellbeing, relationships and unpaid carers.

✨ Play, learning and shared activities

Busselton Libraries – Baby Bounce, Storytime and school holiday activities

Families can build books, songs and social time into their week at Busselton and Dunsborough libraries. Baby Bounce is a free weekly session for babies, while Storytime offers free weekly stories and activities for children aged 2–5. Neither program requires a booking. During school holidays, both libraries also run activities for primary school-aged children; check the library calendar for each new program.

Geographe Leisure Centre – Learn to Swim Program

Based in West Busselton, this term program provides 30-minute swimming lessons for different ages and abilities. Options include infant classes from six months, preschool and school-age stages, squads, homeschool lessons and some private lessons for children with additional needs. Classes have no more than six students. A parent or carer must remain on the pool deck and actively supervise children under 12; children under five need a swimming adult within arm’s reach.

Village Learning

This Busselton education collective offers South West families small-group learning beyond a conventional classroom format. Programs for children and teenagers aged 0–18 span academic, creative, outdoor, nature, play and social learning. Homeschooling families and those seeking educational enrichment can also explore parent classes, workshops and seasonal events designed for the whole family.

🌟 Activities and connection for teenagers

City of Busselton Youth Space

Young people aged 12–18 can drop into the Youth and Community Activities Building at Busselton Foreshore for supervised activities, games, mentoring, social connection and opportunities to build skills. Support workers and carers may attend with clients. It operates at listed after-school, Saturday and school-holiday times, although these can vary, so check the current timetable before travelling.

City of Busselton Youth Services – School Holiday Program

The City runs fully supervised holiday activities for young people of all abilities aged 12–18. Participants must live, study or have strong connections to the City of Busselton. Activities are free or low cost, but places are limited; parents and guardians are encouraged to review each activity’s details and book early.

Youth South West (YSW) – JSW Training & Community Services

Serving Busselton and the wider South West, YSW assists young people aged 12–18 through regional offices and outreach. Support can include case management, informal counselling, advocacy, mediation and specialist referrals, as well as help accessing recreation, creative activities, education, training, work experience and learner-permit support. Young people may self-refer; other referrers can use the online process. Contact the team to discuss suitability and whether a place is available.

💡 Child development and youth wellbeing

WA Country Health Service – Child Development Service

Located at Busselton Health Campus and serving surrounding areas, the service provides free developmental support for country WA children under 16. Families do not need a diagnosis to raise developmental concerns. Support may involve individual appointments, group programs or parent workshops, delivered face to face, by phone or through secure video. A child must have an eligible Medicare card or number and a country WA residential address. Families can contact the local service directly or submit a referral.

headspace Busselton

Young people aged 12–25 can access free help with mild to moderate mental health concerns, substance use, physical health, and work or study matters. Family members and friends may also receive support. No referral is required. When the Busselton centre is closed, the service is linked with headspace Bunbury; check the official page for current access information.

❤ Family, relationship and carer support

4families – Relationships WA

Families and carers in the Busselton catchment can seek free support when concerned about a child’s or young person’s mental, emotional or social wellbeing. Available assistance includes counselling, emotional and psychosocial support, case work, information, referrals, workshops and groups. Grandparents and carers are also supported. The Busselton service is at 93 Duchess Street and can be contacted on (08) 6164 0600.

South West Counselling

This not-for-profit service provides counselling in Busselton, Dunsborough and Margaret River, with telehealth also available. It works with children and adolescents, individuals, couples and families across areas such as parenting, separation, relationship difficulties, infant and perinatal mental health, grief, trauma, and family and domestic violence. GP Mental Health Care Plans, NDIS and employee assistance arrangements are available. It is not a crisis or emergency service.

Carer Gateway

Unpaid carers supporting a family member or friend with disability, a medical condition, mental illness or age-related frailty can approach this Australia-wide Australian Government service. Depending on an eligibility assessment and planning conversation, supports may include counselling, coaching, peer groups, tailored packages, and planned or emergency respite. Help is available in person, by phone or online. Call 1800 422 737, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, to speak with a local service provider.

📌 A few checks before you go

  • Confirm age and eligibility: Programs cover different stages, from babies to young adults, and some have residency, Medicare or caring-role requirements.
  • Check bookings and availability: Walk-in sessions, term enrolments, referrals and limited-place holiday programs use different access arrangements.
  • Ask about accessibility: Discuss mobility, sensory, communication, supervision or other participation needs directly with the provider before attending.
  • Review current costs and times: Fees, term dates, holiday schedules and opening times can change, even where a regular program is usually free.
  • Clarify adult supervision: Check whether a parent, carer or support worker must stay, participate or provide active supervision.
